The Very First Post!

Hi, My name is Steve.
I'm a 39yr old IT professional currently working in the charity sector. I've been working in the industry since late 1999, working for a national telecoms provider for 12 years. In 2012 I suffered what many have gone through in this turbulent industry, redundancy. Thankfully I was not out of work for long and was back into work within a month working for a well know UK charity. It took me a while to convert to the cultural differences between these sectors, but it a great environment to work in.

I have always had an interest in electronics, computers gaming etc, which I have managed to make my career. I have had many personal projects (too many my wife often tells me!) which have reached varying degrees of completion. So I've decided that I'm going to start “and finish” a project that will be an asset in the future. I've decided to build a 3d printer!

So why create this blog? Well there are a few reasons for this: -
Firstly, to focus thought – my thoughts are scattered, random and impulsive (hence the profile name of fractal thoughts) I really think I have undiagnosed ADD. This often causes me to get distracted with life and new projects, never getting to finishing them. Writing a blog means I have to think about what needs to be done, how it needs to be structured and how to post it here to make a cohesive story end to end.

Secondly, to help others who are thinking of making a 3d printer – this will be a living process of learning and development. It will have it's failures and successes. Hopefully I can put these across in a way that allows others to avoid the mistakes get the momentum of the success.

Lastly, accountability - “If” this blog becomes interesting to readers, I will be obligated by my internal compass to complete the project and share what I know.

I'll apologies in advance for the way this blog will be written. This is my first blog, so my writing style will need some work I'm sure. You can leave feedback on the project and it's progress below.

Thanks for reading, I hope you find value in future posts and i look forward to hearing from you! :)
